Defeated but not humiliated
Well the teachers of Thomas Telford prevailed in a keenly contested game.Ā Lilleshall won the toss and elected to bat but despite some excellent shots and consistent scoring, Lilleshall continued to leak wickets and ended up posting a score of 129 off their allotted 20 overs.Ā Credit must go to the Thomas Telford lads for some tidy bowling and tight fielding.
A defensible total but Thomas Telford set about the Lilleshall attack and went for their shots from the outset.Ā They were quickly past 50 without loss and looking as though they would cruise to victory.Ā Lilleshall did come back, taking a few wickets, but in the end it wasnāt enough to prevent the TTS XI reaching the required total with three overs to spare.
Happily I was able to save my son (and wife and daughter) from the embarrassment of seeingĀ meĀ get outĀ for a duck and managed a barely credible 14 with a couple of boundaries mixed in for good measure.Ā Eventually dismissed by a run out when my batting partner, obviously deceived by my youthful looks and athletic figure, gained the impression that I could run as fast as him (i.e. like a hungry cheetah chasing lunch!) and I was duly sent on my way by an unerring throw that demolished the stumps as my bat flailed in a desperate attempt to make ground.Ā I even almost managed to bowl a maiden over but was deservedly thumped for six over the short boundary when straying one down the legside.Ā
Still, an excellent evening that was hugely enjoyable and particular credit must go to Mark Hudson for cooking all those sausages and burgers in typical June weather!
Oh well, back to the nets – but before then – where did I put those pain killersā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.

An Invitation XI
Arriving at practice last night I received the shock news that I had been selected to play in a LilleshallĀ Invitation XI against some of the teachers from the Thomas Telford School!Ā As my son fell about with laughter my enthusiasm was further dampedĀ by theĀ discovery that one of the TTS staff āused to play regularly for Devonā and one of the others plays regular league cricket with Perkins.
Half hoping this was a wind up – I discovered later that it wasnāt – but I at least have the assurance that some of my fellow coaches will be taking up the challenge (Alan Bloor and Simon Mackriel) where as Mark HudsonĀ will be ābatting for the oppositionā to coin a phrase – amongst his TTS colleaguesĀ ;-)
So the stage is set – the rain will hopefully keep off.Ā Ā Ā My daughter – who is a Year 9 pupil at TTS -Ā assures me that āwe will get slaughteredā and is coming along to āenjoyā the anticipated humiliating spectacleĀ and she doesnāt come to watch cricket lightly!Ā
Ā Oh well – where thereās life thereās hopeā¦ā¦ā¦.Ā

I wonāt be long dear – Iām just on the blogā¦.
āYou spend all night on there!ā is the oft heard reply to the above in our house anyway!
As Coach Admin Officer I get the gig of maintaining the clubās web presence.Ā The ECB site (see links) is still maintained by Pete and we continue to use that for results, scores, fixtures and stats.Ā The main website will continue to have information about the club, training, events and so on but I decided to move the match reports off there to a more readable format as a blog.
You can register as aĀ user for this site and add comments if you want to but please keep them clean (if you donāt I willĀ moderate them).
I hope you find it a useful addition to the clubās resources and thanks to everyone who contributes with match reports for juniors and seniors alike.
