Third XI 2010

Vs Wellington (Home) 22/5/10

Lilleshall 3rd XI continue to push for promotion as they beat Wellington 5th XI by 129 runs.

Batting first, Pete Maltby (21) and the in-form Jack Pierce (46) got Lilleshall off to a flying start and with contributions throughout the middle order they were well in control. A quick 47 from Richard Leech helped his side on to a very healthy 200 from their 40 overs.

Wellington never came close to this total with young James Gant (4-24) taking four wickets from his 7.5 overs. With only three batsman reaching double figures, it was a very good bowling performance from the home side and Leech (2-8) finished off the innings with two wickets with the score on 71.

This leaves Lilleshall second in Division Seven and next week they go to league leaders Prees for a top of the table clash.

Vs Pontesbury (Home) 1/5/10

Lilleshall 3rd XI, under new captain Richard Todd, started their 2010 campaign with a nine point winning draw against Pontesbury in a 35 over game.

Batting first, the home side made a well earned 173 all out from 34 overs. Richard Leech (24) and Alex Dyer (21) both had good contributions, but the main stay of the innings was from Rob Bagshaw and with some powerful hitting he made a well deserved 69. Ryan Davies, Russell Pugh and Phil Hartshorn all got three wickets for the visitors.

Pontesbury made a good start to their innings with 26 from Hartshorn, but they fell short of the total on 115 with seven wickets down. Ian Dawes picked two wickets with Rob Bagshaw picking up three to go with his good batting performance. Lilleshall next week go to Calverhall 2nd XI as they try to push on from their good start.
