u11 Reports 2009

 3rd June- Home against Madeley

Lilleshall’s u11 team bagged their first win of the season against a very young Madeley side. With the assistance of both coaches this was an enjoyable evening’s cricket.  Matthew Roberts and Joshua McCormick both made runs and took wickets. Hannah Maltby also took two wickets with her special delivery – it doesn’t bounce very much but is dead straight (clearly she learned that one off her Dad)!  All the players did their best and they promise a bright future for both clubs.

20th May - Away against Forton

Forton won the toss and decided to bat, despite a downpour play continued in the rain and Forton ran out eventual winners by 20 runs.

13th May - Home against Shifnal

In uncertain weather, Lilleshall entertained Shifnal B at home.  Shifnal won the toss and put Lilleshall into bat.

Callum Leech, Josh McCormick and Ian Holdroyd all batted well with Josh top scoring not out with six runs as Lilleshall scored 267 for the loss of three wickets leaving a target for Shifnal of 252 – a very respectable score.

Shifnal however proved up to the task posting 299, also for the loss of three wickets giving them victory by just 32 runs.  This was a much improved performance by the whole Lilleshall team with Josh McCormick, Callum Leech and Joe Trickett all bowling and fielding extremely well.

Keep up the good work boys.

6th May – Away against Wellington

Like the u13s, the u11s were faced with an immediate return fixture against a team that defeated them the previous week.  This time it was an u10 fixture and once again Lilleshall won the toss but elected to bat first this time.

Wellington bowled well to peg Lilleshall’s score to 250 off their 20 overs for the loss of five wickets; leaving a target to beat of 225 net.  This was always going to be hard to defend but the Lilleshall team did well to restrict Wellington to a lower score than the previous week, scoring 283 off their 20 overs for the loss of 3 wickets; a net total of 268 and victory to Wellington by a 43 run margin.

29th April - Home against Wellington

A year is a long time in junior cricket and the move up to u13s of several of last season’s u11s has robbed the Lilleshall side of valuable experience.  That said, the current crop of up and coming u11s show great promise and what they perhaps lack in experience they certainly compensate for with enthusiasm and raw talent.  An early season fixture against Wellington was always going to be a tough game and, so it proved.

Lilleshall won the toss and decided to bowl first in this, their first ever under 11 game with a very young side.  Wellington scored 305 runs off their 20 overs for the loss of two wickets, leaving a net total of 295 to chase.  Lilleshall managed to get close, scoring 277 runs, but the loss of eight wickets meant that their net score was reduced to 237.  Everyone contributed with bat and ball and Lilleshall would like to extend their thanks to Wellington for modifying their game to suit the ability of our youngsters.

Wellington ran out worthy winners by 58 runs.
